After the roadway was raised the Bayonne Bridge can accommodate ultra large ships

On April 24, 2013, the Port Authority's Board of Commissioners awarded a $743.3 million contract to raise the roadway.

Construction started in 2013, with plans to finalize by 2017. After multiple delays, the project was completed in 2019.
